Sammons Financial Group provides high-quality life insurance, annuity, retirement-planning products and is the parent company of Midland National Life Insurance & North American Company. As a large financial institution that works to protect their customers’ futures, they needed to continue building their solid brand reputation.

Their team reached out to Blue Compass for assistance obtaining more control over page one of search results for their brand “Midland National”. There were results linking to third-party resources that their team did not own. Was it even possible to remove these results from Google? Other SEO agencies had tried to no avail, but our SEO experts were ready to take on the challenge!

Blue Compass Gave Branded Search Results New Life

Our SEO team had to get creative to fix the page one search results problem, especially since we didn’t have access to the other websites residing there. We quickly formed a strong partnership with the incredible Sammons marketing and IT teams, working together to make our recommended updates. Our digital marketing experts used several technical SEO tactics to boost Midland National’s online presence. Our SEO efforts for the insurance company improved their search rankings, but more importantly, helped remove the third-party results off Google page one for their main branded search terms in about six months.

Technical SEO

Our SEO experts implemented robust schema markup throughout the website, and even made a custom tool that helped the Sammons Financial team generate their own schema code. We updated canonical tags, robots.txt, sitemaps and performed ongoing SEO audits with error corrections to ensure all of Sammons Financial’s websites had solid SEO authority.

Digital Profile Optimization

Besides traditional SEO for the insurance company, one of our tactics to push the third-party results off the first page was to optimize Midland National’s online profiles to rank higher. Overall, we optimized a total of nine different branded profiles or external listings to revive their brand’s digital presence, including Google Business Profile, Better Business Bureau, Bloomberg, LinkedIn, Facebook & more.

ADA Compliance Audit

Ensuring your website follows American Disability Act (ADA) compliance standards can improve SEO and the user experience, so we recommended this tactic. Our team conducted an accessibility audit on Sammons Financial Group’s websites, then reported on global and page-specific errors. Since Blue Compass didn’t have access to their CMS to make the fixes, we also included steps for their development team to complete the ADA process and a 23-page guide with tips to keep web pages accessible.
