Get to Know Our New Front-End Developer, Dexter Jacobs!

I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Blue Compass as a Front-End Developer. I look forward to joining a company with such a fantastic culture and utilizing my development knowledge as a part of the development team.

My Background as a Developer

I’ve always been into computers and from an early age taught myself HTML while in junior high. After high school, I attended Des Moines Area Community College and the University of Iowa to study design. I completed an internship at a digital agency after college where I had the chance to grow my front-end development skills. From there, I had multiple jobs, most recently at Drake University before finding my way to Blue Compass.

Get to Know Me Better

Growing up I moved around a few times. I was born in Memphis, Tennessee and lived in North Carolina for about 4 years and have been in Iowa ever since. Most of my time spent in Iowa has been in Perry, but I graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School. I also lived in Iowa City before moving to the Des Moines area, and I live in Johnston currently. I have two children, Beckett, who is four-years-old and Vivian, who is a one-year-old with my spouse, Kelsey, whom I met in high school. My spouse and I have been married for 13 years and we enjoy exploring family friendly activities in the Des Moines metro area.

When it comes to hobbies, I would say I’m an avid comic book fan. I have been to different comic convention events in Des Moines and around the country. I’ve even met William Shatner and Stan Lee at Wizard World in Des Moines! I’ve also gotten the opportunity to meet Rob Liefeld (from Deadpool) and Mike Mignola (of Hellboy fame) at San Diego's comic convention. I’d have to say my favorite superhero is Cable, who is a part of the Marvel universe. Also with my free time, I volunteer outside of work to run the website for the Iowa Comic Book Club website. A fun fact about me is that I used to be a professional coffee roaster! You can always reach out to me if you’d like to talk about coffee or have questions.

Joining the Blue Compass Team

I’m excited to join a company with such an outstanding culture, where I can utilize my front-end development knowledge for Blue Compass and our clients. When I read the culture page while applying for the position it all sounded too good to be true. I know now that Blue Compass lives up to its reputation of having an excellent culture. I enjoy being here and look forward to what’s to come with Blue Compass.
